One of those tiny towns in Devenish. Just 29km from Benalla, this tightknit community is known for its silo art, monthly market, friendly local pub and several war memorials.
It also has a thriving public hall, which has been earmarked for $50,000 from the tiny town fund.
The funding will go to the Devenish Public Hall Committee of Management, allowing the community facility to continue to thrive.
State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes announced the funding, along with 11 other community organisations in the north-east that will also receive grants, on Friday, May 9.
“Rural and Regional Victoria has so much to offer, which is why we’re continuing to support projects that enhance our tiniest towns, strengthen community connections and encourage more visitors to all corners of the state,” Ms Symes said.
“The Tiny Towns Fund is refreshing community halls, creating new walking tracks, upgrading local sporting facilities and boosting the regional art scene, making our smallest towns great places to live, work, stay and play.”
The funding is part of round two of the fund, for towns with populations of fewer than 5000 people.
The grants of between $5000 and $50,000 will help local communities across Victoria flourish, and in many cases, support local workers during project development.
Almost 350 projects are now being supported through round one and round two of the Tiny Towns Fund, across more than 300 locations.
The fund is a part of the government’s $45 billion investment over the past decade in projects and programs that support regional and rural Victoria.
