A small plane was destroyed in a fire at Shepparton Airport in the early hours of Tuesday, August 15.
Emergency services were called to the airport on Goulburn Valley Hwy, Kialla, after a passer-by noticed a plane on fire about 12.20am.
It took firefighters from Fire Rescue Victoria and the CFA about 15 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
The plane had been parked up on the tarmac outside the hangars at the time of the fire.
The front end of the Piper Cherokee light aircraft was completely burnt out.
Initial reports from a FRV spokesperson said it was believed the plane had leaked fuel, sparking the blaze.
However, later Tuesday morning, Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Jess Williams said police were investigating the fire.
She said the cause was undetermined and an arson chemist would examine the scene.
Late Tuesday morning the burnt-out plane remained on the tarmac, with a police car parked nearby to guard it.
