Historically, the region has hit record-breaking numbers for the Good Friday Appeal, making it a powerful regional contribution for its size.
In his second year as area manager of the Seymour district Good Friday Appeal, Bart Chanloup said he was overwhelmed by the generosity of the community.
“It’s surprising that it’s a little area that donates so generously and puts so much money towards it,” he said.
“It’s fantastic, actually, it’s quite amazing how much we do raise.”
While the district’s used to hitting significant goals, Mr Chanloup said there were no big expectations for locals this year.
“We’re just trying to get as much as we can because we know it’s a difficult time with fuel prices and everything,” he said.
“Every dollar counts, it could be five cents, it could be $50 – it does every little bit to raise money for the vital job (the Royal Children’s Hospital does) for the kids.”
Like usual, door knocking and tin rattling will be common around the region on Good Friday, which this year falls on Friday, April 3.
The strong volunteer base of money collectors, comprising local emergency service volunteers and other community members, will take to the streets in the morning.
There will also be an opportunity for those who want to get involved to do so, with interested locals invited to get involved by registering at the Seymour Cricket Club from 9am.
Children will need to be accompanied by a supervising adult.
Mr Chanloup said it was a fantastic cause that also benefited the region.
“It all goes towards the Royal Children’s Hospital, and they’re also sending out about $9 million to support the regional (communities), as well,” he said.
“It’s not just Melbourne itself, they’re trying to do it everywhere.”
