A Total Fire Ban has been declared for the Wimmera and North East districts for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28, as extreme fire danger conditions continue across Victoria.
Hot, dry and windy weather is forecast to persist, with temperatures expected to reach the mid-40s and strong south-westerly winds increasing the risk of fast-moving and uncontrollable fires.
Under a Total Fire Ban, no fires can be lit or allowed to remain alight in the open air from 12.01am to 11.59pm on the day of the ban.
CFA chief officer Jason Heffernan said the declaration reflected both the severe weather conditions and the current fires burning across the two regions.
“Tomorrow’s conditions will make it difficult to suppress new fire starts and will challenge firefighters already working hard to contain existing fires,” he said.
“Crews across the state have been working around the clock, and the community can support them by strictly following Total Fire Ban rules.”
Victorians can check Total Fire Ban status on the CFA website or the VicEmergency app, and should stay informed through local radio, the VicEmergency website or hotline on 1800 226 226.
