Benalla Library’s Ramey Hengen welcomed FitzSimons to the launch at the Benalla Visitor Information Centre and acknowledged Country.
Benalla Historical Society’s Ellen Crocker spoke about Weary Dunlop’s important legacy to the community.
Around 85 guests enjoyed the launch.
FitzSimons talked about his book, which details the extraordinary story of Dr Dunlop, whose courage and leadership became a lifeline for thousands on the infamous Thai-Burma Railway.
In it, he tells the tales of the young Australian surgeon selflessly risking his own life many times to keep his men alive.
After FitzSimons spoke, Hans Bruitman performed a song he wrote about Weary Dunlop.
Many of the 85-strong crowd travelled from surrounding regions to be at the event.
