Barooga resident Michael Florance is standing for the Sustainable Australia Party.
He has lived in Barooga for 50 years and been involved in the operation of a family-owned wholesale nursery business for the past 40 years, producing vegetable seedlings for market gardeners in southern NSW and Victoria.
On his bio, Mr Florance said the party’s policies resonate with him because they offer “carefully considered solutions to the problems of unsustainable urban growth and suburban sprawl, whilst protecting our heritage and local amenity.”
“I have always been passionate about the protection and conservation of our natural environment and am committed to its restoration and better management into the future,” Mr Florance said.
“Other issues that are of concern to me include the logging of native forests in our national parks, and water management and allocation in the Murray-Darling Basin.
“I hope part of my lasting legacy that I leave to my grandchildren will be the simple joy and satisfaction that results from planting one of many native trees and watching it grow to maturity.”
Mr Florance has drawn third place on this weekend’s ballot.
Other candidates, in ballot order, are: Adrian Carle (Legalise Cannabis Party); Max Buljubasic (Labor); Peta Betts (The Nationals); Kevin Farrell (Public Education Party); Desiree Gregory (Shooters, Fishers and Farmers); Amelia King (The Greens); Helen Dalton (Independent); Greg Adamson (Independent); David Landini (Independent).
