Benalla Rural City Councillors have congratulated former Mayor, Danny Claridge, who was recognised at the Municipal Association of Victoria’s Councillor Service Awards.
The prestigious Mayor Emeritus Award is given to councillors who have served three or more terms as Mayor, acknowledging their enduring leadership, commitment to public service, and the lasting legacy they leave in local government.
In congratulating Mr Claridge, current Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn said the recognition was well deserved.
“Danny has made a lasting contribution to Benalla through his leadership, service, and dedication to our community,” Cr Hearn said.
“This award is a fitting tribute to his years of commitment and the positive impact he’s had on local government and the people of Benalla.
“Danny’s leadership has helped shape the direction of Benalla Rural City, and his legacy continues to influence the work of the council today.”
The Service Awards were held following the MAV Annual Conference, where the Mayor and chief executive officer, Peter Keane, joined council representatives from across Victoria to connect, learn, and share ideas for strengthening local communities.
“Benalla Rural City Council extends its heartfelt congratulations to Danny Claridge, and thanks him for his outstanding service to the region,” Cr Hearn said.
