Benalla is my lifelong home, and I am deeply invested in our community. As a police officer’s daughter, one of nine siblings, and a mother of two, I bring a diverse and grounded perspective to my role.
I’m a businesswoman, horse breeder and farmer, well-acquainted with the unique challenges faced by those in rural areas, from natural disasters to financial pressures and government regulations.
I have been privileged to be an elected councillor for the past eight years. During this time, I have gained experience in local government, having served as deputy mayor for three years while I honed my skills to then become mayor for two years.
Serving as mayor was a tremendous honour, and I cherished the opportunity to connect with our community at various events. I approached this role with humility and respect.
I’ve been pushing for the redevelopment of the Benalla Indoor Recreation Centre, and we’ve successfully secured a $15 million grant from the state government.
My focus now is to ensure that this project provides value, concentrating on the construction itself rather than spending on architectural and consulting fees.
As a councillor and a member of the project steering committee, I will work tirelessly to keep the project within budget.
My initial drive to join council was sparked by the mismanagement of our landfill. The old cell was overfilled, and the new cell was delayed and over-budget, resulting in the EPA closing the site and fining the council.
Since then, we have transformed it into a modern, efficient facility, complete with an accessible transfer station, recycling bins for clothes, shoes and bags, e-waste drop-off points and separate entries for commercial waste.
Benalla and the Hume region have become leaders in waste and resource recovery, being the only regional area in Victoria with a multi-council waste group. I’m committed to continuing our support for the circular economy through initiatives like the tip shop, Repair Café, textile and soft plastic recycling and finding solutions for silage wrap disposal.
For the past four years, I’ve represented Benalla at the Municipal Association of Victoria, advocating for our interests and engaging with federal and state ministers and councillors from both rural and metropolitan areas to address shared challenges.
Benalla is a regional arts and culture hub, and our iconic gallery, now 50 years old, needs revitalisation.
We’ve secured $6 million in federal and state funding for this renovation, and I will ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget.
Our city has seen significant growth, with over 12 subdivisions consisting of about 800 lots approved in the past eight years.
Managing this growth while preserving our city’s liability, connectivity and open spaces is essential.
Together, we must focus on improving our infrastructure, roads, footpaths and drainage systems, supporting local businesses, and ensuring our landfill continues to serve Benalla effectively.
I’m passionate about celebrating Australia Day and preserving our local traditions while embracing new opportunities.
I believe in the power of female leadership and am dedicated to encouraging more women to take on leadership roles within our community.
I will advocate for, and encourage, more female leaders in our community.
I have the experience and as your councillor I will be approachable, accountable and consistent because I am committed to community.
