Residents can dispose of up to 300kg of green waste for free at the Benalla Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre on Saturday and Sunday, October 25 and 26.
This initiative provides a fantastic opportunity for residents and ratepayers to dispose of their green waste responsibly, free of charge.
Accepted items include lawn clippings branches, garden prunings, and raw timber offcuts.
To ensure smooth processing, residents are kindly reminded to bring only green waste.
Mixing green waste with other materials may complicate disposal procedures.
Spring is the perfect time to tidy your property, not just for aesthetics, but also to reduce fire hazards.
Clearing excess vegetation, prunings, and fallen branches helps minimise fuel for potential bushfires, keeping properties and the wider community safer as the warmer months approach.
Specific guidelines apply for the types of waste accepted.
Only raw timber in its natural form will be accepted, while machined timber cannot be included.
Additionally, stumps must measure less than 40cm in diameter and 1m in length to be eligible for disposal.
This event is available for domestic customers only.
Permitted vehicles include sedans, Utes, and trailers (up to dual-wheel tandem).
Larger vehicles such as trucks and tippers, which are deemed to carry commercial quantities, are not eligible for this free initiative.
Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn encouraged the community to take advantage of this event and highlighted its importance.
“This free green waste Weekend is a wonderful initiative to support our community in managing green waste responsibly,” she said.
“It’s a great way to keep our properties tidy, reduce fire hazards, and protect the environment.
“We hope residents make the most of this opportunity and join us in creating a cleaner, greener, and safer Benalla Rural City.”
Council looks forward to welcoming residents over the free green waste weekend, and thanks everyone, for working together to care for our community and environment.
The Benalla Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre is located at 96 Old Farnley Rd, and will be open from 12pm to 3.45pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
