Households with students at Victorian government schools can now apply for the School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI), which will provide eligible students with free internet at home until the end of 2025.
Led by the National Broadband Network, the program now accepts applications from families without an active NBN service at home.
State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland encourages eligible households to apply for the initiative, saying it will help families and students in regional communities.
“I recommend everyone to look into this initiative and find out if you are eligible,” Ms Cleeland said.
“Too many households in our communities are left without reliable internet connection, and it can put a real handbrake on education opportunities for our schoolchildren.
“While this would primarily benefit the students, families will also be able to use the provided internet connection.
“With cost-of-living pressures continuing to surge, any assistance like this initiative can be of great benefit to entire families.”
Households must meet the following criteria to apply:
- Have a child enrolled in an Australian school
- Don’t have an active NBN internet service at home* (excludes mobile internet services)
- Live in an area where NBN can be accessed through a standard connection (NBN will confirm this).
