Local and regional CFA rushed to the area, doing everything possible to extinguish the fire and protect lives, property, stock and wildlife.
Their efforts ensured no lives were lost.
Sadly one home was destroyed, while many others lost sheds, fencing and stock.
The scale of the response was massive – nearly 50 fire trucks, 11 aircraft and 200 brave firefighters battled to bring the blaze under control.
Many others in the community assisted with their private equipment.
The Goomalibee Fire Brigade was on the ground keeping the community safe during and after December’s fire. From left, Captain Darryl McNeilly, Marty Burke, Tony Kelly, Murray Chapman and Shane Richardson.
For 34 gruelling days and nights local CFA volunteers remained on standby, racing out at all hours to tackle dangerous spot fires.
The response and recovery continued with many more individuals, organisations and businesses assisting the community.
BlazeAid volunteers stepped up immediately and the local CFA gratefully welcomed their support in the lead-up to Christmas.
Before they could come in and help the fire needed to be extinguished.
A community spokesperson said that eventually the area was deemed safe and the fire was out, allowing for volunteers, like BlazeAid, to come in and help recovery efforts.
“The Goomalibee community has been overwhelmed by the generosity and community spirit and wishes to thank all with a thank you dinner,” the spokesperson said.
“Were you one of those amazing individuals who have assisted?
