This becomes Cr Hearn's fourth term as mayor, having previously served in the role from November 2021 to November 2023, then again from November 2024.
Cr Justin King was re-elected as deputy mayor.
Both the mayor and deputy mayor will serve for a period of 12 months.
In accepting the position of mayor, Cr Bernie Hearn expressed her gratitude to her fellow councillors.
“It’s an incredible privilege to be re-elected as mayor of Benalla Rural City for my fourth term — serving this community has been a great honour,” she said.
“To have been entrusted with this responsibility again is something that I do not take lightly.
“Thank you to my fellow councillors for entrusting me with confidence and willingness to work together to represent our amazing community in this important role.
“My commitment is to continue serving with transparency and respect.
“I will keep listening, engaging and collaborating with residents and my fellow councillors to ensure our region remains a place where people feel connected, supported and optimistic about the future.
“I would also like to thank my family, Russell, Nick, Brad, Em and Percy for their support.”
Cr King congratulated Cr Hearn on her re-election.
“This marks my fourth consecutive year in the role of deputy mayor and I want to thank my fellow councillors for their support in allowing me to do this again,” Cr King said while also thanking his family.
“Benalla Rural City Council is committed to working collaboratively to support the needs of the community over the coming term.”
