Win Crilly from Henley Friends says the group is calling for the government to grant them $5 million to start the demolition of the existing building and to construct the brand new facility.
“We want a grant to get started, this is the only way we can build it” she said.
“We own the land, got the plans and building permits ready to go; the only thing stopping us is the finances.”
The building will look to house 15 people, with separate rooms for each.
Food and accommodation is provided for residents and there isn’t an entry fee to reserve a spot.
“You pay 70 per cent of your pension when you get in plus your rent allowance” Ms Crilly said.
“Everybody will have their own room and ensuite.
“You come to the dining room for meals and there will be a consulting room to host events.”
A part-time cook will be at the facility to cook the meals and guests can go grab it at any time.
Ms Crilly said Henley Friends was also planning to possibly build a facility on the property to host a Men’s Shed also.
Henley Friends have opened a waiting list for over-55s who are interested in staying at the facility.
“I’m first in though, I’ve got my room chosen already” Ms Crilly said.
“It won’t be first in, first serve, an application process will occur.
“A married couple can come in however legally we can only have one person assigned to each room.“
Ms Crilly said there would be an option to combine two rooms so a couple could be together.
