To acknowledge loss and grief, Benalla Health has again partnered with Benalla Library to host its annual ‘Community Trees of Remembrance’ throughout December.
Writing a special message on a card in memory of loved ones can support healing.
Hanging your message on a tree is a way of acknowledging our loved ones and including them in your Christmas preparations.
Benalla Health palliative care loss and grief co-ordinator April Betheras said this year Benalla Health had printed special remembrance cards for your messages.
“We will launch the cards at our Community Memorial Gathering, on November 25,” she said.
“The Tree of Remembrance cards have a positive message and can be a healing ritual.
“People can remember their loved one at Christmas, including pets, and have their special message hung on the trees with other decorations.
“Our community tree is once again located at the Benalla Library — it is a quiet space which allows reflection, and past feedback has embraced its quiet central placement.
“Our second tree is located at Benalla Health’s main reception area for our staff, patients, family members and friends to access.
“This year, our Morrie Evans Wing also has a Remembrance Tree.”
The tree and messages will stay on display until the end of December.
In honour of the memories contained in the messages, a ceremonial burning of the cards will later be conducted by Benalla Health’s Palliative Care Team.
