A seven-goal first quarter for Jerilderie really had Saturday’s Picola League game set up.
We relaxed a little in the second to allow Rennie some late goals.
Coach Sam Sleigh made some adjustments and got the team re-focused, and it just clicked with hard running and defensive pressure, resulting in numerous forward entries.
Final score: Jerilderie 20.22 (142) def Rennie 3.3 (21).
Marquee signing Lachlan Taylor-Nugent played his first game of the season and what a game it was.
He dominated across the half-back line to win the Eagle i Machinery best on ground (BOG).
Jethro Calma-Holt led strongly all day to show a glimpse of his talent to be our leading goal kicker with four goals and take out the Colony Inn award.
The Jerilderie Sports Club award went to Ben Neesson, who was tried in the back line and his commitment to work for his team was noticed by his teammates and coaching staff, with a 20-metre rundown tackle when the game was already sealed a highlight.
The North Deni Steel award went to Nick Lunn, who applied extreme front-half pressure and was rewarded with three goals of his own.
A very good team effort and if we can continue that this week as we take on a very strong Deni Rovers team this week we will give ourselves every chance to take the points.
Reserves:
It was another competitive game by the guys but another close loss with Rennie holding on for a two-point win.
With some players returning from senior duty it was a fast-paced game going goal-for-goal all game.
A win should not be far away if we continue to work hard for each other and keep hitting the training track.
Final score: Jerilderie 8.6.(54) def by Rennie 8.8.(56).
Riley Webb was outstanding in the center using his pace to take the game on to win the Jerilderie Vet Clinic BOG.
Harrison Curtin was a strong option all day up forward to win the Colony Inn award.
He was well supported by Brendon Beckett (MAKATAK) in the first half and rucked well in the second half to almost get his team over the line.
Frazier Pinnuck played his best game of the year to take the Lawton Ag award.
Thirds:
Both teams entered Saturday’s content with only 14 players, and the game as a result was an even flowing game.
Rennie were able to hit the scoreboard early but a great second quarter by the boys saw them only a goal down at the long break with George Koschel and Tony Gurciullo with three goals leading from the front.
Unfortunately, it was Rennie who was able to make the most of the open spaces to kick away for a victory.
Final score: Jerilderie 7.4 (45) def by Rennie 13.13 (91).
Awards: Matt di Lullo (Congram Transport), Riley Boag (MAKATAK), James Winn (Club Award) and George Koschel (Colony Inn BOG).
Fourths:
We travelled east to take on Rennie in a game that was expected to be hard fought, and that was how it transpired.
After a close first half, our boys and girls responded in the third to dominate and put their good work onto the scoreboard to jump out to a three-goal lead at the final break.
The young Demons finished off the game to run out winners.
Final score: Jerilderie 5.5 (35) def Rennie 3.5 (23).
Awards: Xavier Rorato (Favara Farms BOG), Jackson Pitt (supporters award), Evan Lawton (Colony Inn), James Winn (Ted Nugent award) and Frankie Bryce (Jerilderie Bakery) who played his best game so far to show a glimpse of his talent.
