While many might be yearning for the warm days of summer, there’s plenty to look forward to in winter.
One notable example being the annual yarnbombing that’s been brightening Benalla’s colder months for eight years.
Benalla Yarnbombers president Joy Shirley said this year’s decorations would go up on Saturday, August 2.
“They’ll be up until September 13,” she said.
“We’ve already started this year, and if you take a walk down Bridge St you’ll see a baker in the window of Bertallis Bakery.
“And we have a teddy bear’s picnic and some Australiana in a cabinet in the library.”
The Benalla Yarnbombers have a display in Benalla Library featuring colourful characters and native Aussie fauna.

Joy said that, while a lot of the town’s favourite characters would be back, including Bluey and the Minions, this year’s theme was Australiana.
“That’s mainly Australian animals with a little bit of flora thrown in here and there,” she said.
“We have seven of those in Bridge St, and we’ll have a few opposite the information centre on Mair St.”
Joy said the volunteers had been very busy this year and the group was keen to put a call out for more helpers.
“We’d really like new people to join us for some of the prep-type work, the ideas and the organisation and so on,” she said.
“We would really like to hear from anyone who is good at knitting, crocheting, even sewing to help us with repairs.”
The other area they need a bit more help with will be installation.
“If anyone is available to help us put the yarn up, on the weekend of August 2 and 3, we’d love to hear from you,” Joy said.
If you can assist in any of these areas, call Joy on 0417 065 351.
