Walking Home is designed to increase homelessness awareness at both a national and local level.
Youth services, homelessness services, politicians and local secondary school students will join the event, which includes a presentation, a free sausage sizzle and a walk around Victoria Park Lake for those who are feeling energetic.
“Homelessness remains a significant issue in our local community, even if it’s not always as visible as it is in metro Melbourne,” Salvation Army North East Youth Services regional manager Leah Farnham said.
“Young people are especially vulnerable, often facing complex barriers to finding safe and secure housing.”
Walking Home will be held at Victoria Park Lake, near SAM, on Friday, August 8, from 11am to 1.30pm.
Registration is preferred for catering purposes.
