The next 24 months will mark a significant milestone for Berrigan Shire, with Julia Cornwell McKean to become the shire’s longest-serving female mayor.
Councillors re-elected Cr Cornwell McKean as mayor and elected Cr Catherine Healy as deputy mayor at a council meeting on September 16.
The pair will hold their positions until the next councillor elections in September 2028.
Cr Cornwell McKean is only the third female mayor in Berrigan’s history, and with Cr Healy elected as deputy mayor, Berrigan Shire will have had a female deputy mayor for three consecutive terms - more than six years in total.
Cr Cornwell McKean said she felt privileged to continue leading Berrigan Shire for the remainder of the council term.
“Thank you to my fellow councillors for their continued support. I look forward to continuing to advocate for Berrigan Shire over the next two years,” she said.
Cr Cornwell McKean also expressed her gratitude to the outgoing deputy mayor, Cr Renee Paine, acknowledging her commitment and support throughout her two‑year term.
