The Victorian Labor Government has committed to upgrading motor sport facilities at Winton Motor Raceway, if re-elected.
It said it would invest $250,000 to make sure more locals could enjoy competing close to home.
Benalla Auto Club secretary Garry Gourlay was on hand to celebrate the news and spoke to Labor Candidate for Euroa Angela Tough about the variety of racers that used the track.
Many users are local, but the track also attracts racing enthusiasts from across the state, providing much-needed visitors to the region.
Ms Tough said motorsport was the lifeblood of Winton, helping to bring communities and families together, and that was why Labor was backing sports clubs, families and communities by delivering better sports grounds and facilities.
“Sport is such a big part of our community, it’s why we’re backing local clubs to invest in upgrades and improvements so more local families can stay active and get engaged,” Ms Tough said.
“A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will invest $250,000 to upgrade the Winton Motor Raceway — because only Labor will do what matters for community sporting clubs.”
Victorian Community Sport Minister Ros Spence said the government had invested more than $1.6 billion to upgrade and improve recreation reserves and sports grounds, delivering better playing surfaces, new scoreboards, lighting upgrades and changing facilities for clubs in every corner of the state — while at the same time, supporting local jobs.
“Labor understands that local sporting clubs are at the heart of so many communities,” Ms Spence said.
“We’re proud to be injecting new life into local communities by delivering more modern, accessible infrastructure and facilities.”
