If you've ventured past Lake Benalla in the last week you might have noticed things look a little different.
The lake is drawn down as a means to address the invasive South American Cabomba weed.
After being introduced into waterways via discarded aquariums the weed has spread throughout the country causing a number of issues for native flora and fauna.
Benalla Rural City acted on advice last year to order the drawdown to allow the warmer weather to dry out the weed, limiting its spread.
It has been drawn down to a level which allows for the original course of the Broken River to remain flowing which is essential for the lakes fish population to continue to move downstream.
