The Longwood fire has now been contained, with VicEmergency downgrading from a warning to a stay informed advice on Tuesday, January 20.

The advice is for Acheron, Alexandra, Ancona, Cathkin, Caveat, Creightons Creek, Devils River, Dropmore, Fawcett, Ghin Ghin, Gobur, Gooram, Highlands, Kanumbra, Kelvin View, Killingworth, Koriella, Limestone, Longwood, Longwood East, Maintongoon, Merton, Molesworth, Old Longwood, Ruffy, Tarcombe, Terip Terip, Thornton, Upton Hill, Woodfield, Yarck and Yea.
A State Control Centre spokesperson said the fire had now been 97 per cent contained within a perimeter, but there was “still fire activity” within that area.
The Longwood fire is now being held within containment lines.
VicEmergency said there were still fire hotspots across the fire ground and some areas were still producing fire and smoke.
People in these areas are asked to continue remain vigilant and monitor conditions
Fire crews also continue to work within the fire’s perimeter during the day.
The spokesperson said the latest estimates were that 132,000 hectares had burnt in the fire, which started on Wednesday, January 7.
More than 600 firefighters are working on the fire.
