A major water infrastructure project has commenced in Shepparton with the construction of a new 36-megalitre drinking water storage tank at Goulburn Valley Water’s operations centre on Florence St.

The $22.4 million development will boost storage capacity by more than 40 per cent, enhancing water security for Shepparton, Mooroopna and surrounding communities.

GVW managing director Steve Capewell said the project was crucial for the region’s future.

“Access to safe, reliable drinking water is critical to the liveability and prosperity of our communities,” he said.

“This investment under our Price Plan 2023-28 ensures we are preparing for projected demand, building resilience and maintaining services into the future.'”

The upgrade, being delivered by Leed Engineering and Construction, commenced in August, with completion expected by late 2026.

The project forms part of GVW’s Price Plan 2023-28, which outlines key investments to maintain reliable services and support regional growth.

While water services will continue uninterrupted during construction, local residents and businesses may experience increased activity and large vehicle movements in the area.
