Violet Town CFA is hosting an open day on Saturday, August 9, where local people can meet local firefighters, see a demonstration of their equipment and learn about volunteering opportunities.
There’s also a barbecue and activities to keep the kids entertained.
The concept of the open day is to provide a fun and informative event showcasing the incredible work of the local brigade, with hands-on experiences for all ages.
Violet Town CFA 1st Lieutenant Brodie Doidge said it was also a fundraiser for a new forward command vehicle.
“That’s a Ford Ranger that we currently have on order,” he said.
“It’s the vehicle that runs a bushfire response, when we have more than five trucks attending.
Violet Town CFA is always on hand to protect the community.
“So the person running that job sits in the forward command vehicle and oversees the incident.”
1st Lte Doidge said the brigade was keen to talk to people interested in becoming a volunteer.
“Volunteering with CFA is a great thing to do out of the house,” he said.
“You meet heaps of new friends. It’s a good vibe around the brigade, and you know what you’re doing is potentially going to help someone who’s having one of their worst days.”
There will be a wood raffle on the day, and all money raised on the barbecue and selling drinks goes directly to the brigade.
Attendees can also make a cash or card donation.
Whether you’re keen to learn more, get involved, or just enjoy a great day out with the community — the Violet Town Brigade would love to see you there.
The open day is on Saturday, August 9 from 10am to 3pm at the Violet Town CFA shed, 59 Cowslip St, Violet Town.
