The program aims to enhance urban landscapes and expand canopy coverage while replacing trees lost to natural decline or weather-related damage.
In 2024 108 species including Zelkova, Quercus, and Eucalyptus among others will be planted, focusing on areas with significant canopy deficits or as requested by residents.
The newly planted trees will undergo a two-year maintenance period that includes watering, mulching, and pruning to ensure healthy growth.
Key planting locations include Anglesey St, Alfred St, and Jordan St in Seymour and various streets and reserves in Broadford, Kilmore and Wallan.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Councillor Louise Bannister highlighted the long-term benefits of the program, stating, “Investing in our green infrastructure is investing in the future of Mitchell Shire, improving health and wellbeing while advancing sustainable urban development.”
