Member for Northern Victoria, Rikkie-Lee Tyrrell met with Yarrawonga-Mulwala Green Route Group chair, John Lawless and members, Robert Purtle and John Clarke in Yarrawonga last Monday and said the bridge was crucial for the twin towns.
“I was thrilled when the State Government endorsed the Green Route option for a new Yarrawonga-Mulwala bridge, as it meant that both the Victoria and NSW governments as well as Moira Shire and Federation Councils had reached consensus on the project,” Ms Tyrrell said.
She said that although the NSW Government was the lead agency on the project, it was important the building of the new bridge was not put on the backburner leading up to and after the state election.
“The latest traffic audit conducted three years ago found 11,000 traffic movements on the existing bridge each day, and there is no doubt this is a project that needs to be delivered for the Yarrawonga-Mulwala communities,” Ms Tyrrell said.
“I will continue to advocate on behalf of the community to ensure a new Yarrawonga Mulwala bridge continues to progress and ultimately gets delivered.”
Mr Lawless said the Green Route Community Group was very pleased that Ms Tyrrell had taken the time to meet with them.
“The conversation was very constructive, and she was very receptive to fighting for the new bridge in Parliament,” Mr Lawless said.
“She understood the glaring need for the new bridge to be built as soon as possible, and she said her party would be pressing the government to do something about the Yarrawonga–Mulwala crossing, no matter who is in power after the November election.”
