The festival will open with a welcoming community event on the Wednesday and conclude with a community farewell gathering on the Sunday, bookending a vibrant program of activities.
This year’s program features more than 17 organisations or businesses, 30 events and over 120 hours of experiences, showcasing the richness and diversity of Benalla’s past and present.
From rare 19th-century wedding gowns and historic photo exhibitions, to immersive walking tours and truth-telling experiences along the Broken River, this year’s theme of ‘Change’ invites visitors to see Benalla’s history in fresh and meaningful ways.
Behind-the-scenes access to local landmarks — including churches, pubs and the Masonic Lodge — offers a rare opportunity to step inside places often closed to the public.
Festival organiser and Benalla Heritage Network convenor Jane Rushworth said attendees could enjoy everything from Devonshire teas with the CWA and high tea with live organ music, to art swaps, cinema screenings, a twilight cemetery tour, lively storytelling from passionate locals and a celebration of Benalla Catholic Parish’s 150th anniversary.
“This year’s festival invites people to see Benalla differently — to reflect on what has changed, what has endured, and the stories that shape our shared history,” she said.
With mostly free and ticketed events and something for all ages and interests, this milestone festival promises a warm, inclusive and distinctly Benalla experience.
Some events require bookings, and attendees are encouraged to contact individual event organisers with any inquiries.
