New Telstra mobile coverage for north side of Benalla

A new Telstra mobile base station will deliver 4G and 5G connectivity to the north side of Benalla.

Residents and businesses in Benalla North now have better 4G mobile coverage and fast 5G connectivity due to the recent construction of a Telstra mobile base station.

The site was built as part of the Connecting Victoria program, which has seen Telstra partnering with the Victorian Government to fund the construction or upgrade of over 300 mobile sites across Victoria.

“We know how important mobile connectivity is becoming for Australians, and we can see this each day in our network data,” Telstra regional general manager for Victoria Jenny Gray said.

“Co-investment programs such as this, where carriers like Telstra and the government work together to share the cost in bringing new connectivity in regional and rural locations, are really important and help deliver great connectivity outcomes.”

Besides bringing improved Telstra coverage to the region, the mobile base station also helps connect 000 calls from users on other networks in cases of emergency.

The government’s Connecting Victoria program is designed to give more people access to high-speed broadband, increase mobile coverage, help more places become 5G-ready and improve access to safety information during bushfires and other emergencies.

“As a company, we heavily invest in improving regional connectivity, and this site is another example of our commitment,” Ms Gray said.

“Over the seven years to end of FY25 Telstra invested $12.4 billion in our mobile network nationally, with $4.7 billion of this invested in our regional mobile network.”

Victorian Government Services Minister Enver Erdogan said the government established Connecting Victoria because reliable mobile and broadband coverage was essential for regional communities and small businesses.

“Access to fast, reliable mobile and broadband services is essential for small businesses,” Mr Erdogan said.

“It enables people to work from home, helps parents support their kids through school and keeps communities connected – that’s exactly what this new site delivers.

“Through Connecting Victoria, we’re building or upgrading more than 300 mobile sites right across the state, because where you live shouldn’t determine whether you can get a reliable connection or the number of bars on your phone.”
