Benalla Rural City Council has announced the installation of a new water pump at Casey’s Weir, providing much-needed assistance to farmers across the municipality.

The pump allows users to access water from the Broken River in response to the ongoing drought conditions across the region.

Mayor Bernie Hearn acknowledged the challenges local farmers are facing due to the dry conditions, particularly in feeding and watering of livestock.

"We know how hard the drought is for our farmers, not just financially but emotionally too," Cr Hearn said.

“The pump installation reflects Benalla Rural City Council’s commitment to supporting our local communities, particularly in times of need.

“This new pump is one way council is helping our farmers during this difficult time. Our farming community is the backbone of this region, this pump shows we are standing beside them during the drought.

“Council encourages farmers to make use of this resource while following the posted conditions of use.”

The water pump, which is free to use, was introduced to help alleviate some of the stress caused by limited water supplies.

Farmers will find it easy to operate, with clear instructions available on-site to guide use.

This resource is strictly for stock and domestic use only.

The water pump at Casey’s Weir is located on the Midland Hwy, just before the intersection of the Benalla-Tocumwal Rd.
