With experience across local government, resource industries, and regional development, Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn said Mr Keane has brought valuable insight into Council’s operations and long-term planning.
“Since joining council in May 2025, Peter has brought fresh energy and a clear vision to council,” Cr Hearn said.
“His ability to connect with people, listen deeply, and act decisively has helped us build stronger relationships across the community and within the organisation.
“We’re excited about the direction we are heading under his leadership.”
Mr Keane said he is excited about what lies ahead, adding that over the past six months he has focused on developing a robust understanding of council’s financial sustainability and service delivery capability, while advancing strategic relationships with residents and government partners.
“My focus is on building a strong, value-driven organisation — one that is financially sustainable, responsive to community needs, and committed to continuous improvement,” Mr Keane said.
“I am passionate about creating connected, inclusive, and resilient communities, and I’m committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and service excellence in everything we do.
“My leadership style is built on collaboration, transparency, and commitment to outcomes.
“I believe in empowering teams, challenging the status quo, and fostering innovation to help deliver services that truly benefit our community.
“It is a privilege to lead Benalla Rural City Council, and I look forward to continuing our work to build a thriving, connected, and resilient Benalla Rural City.”
