What was once a thriving group for parents and children in the community is now struggling to stay afloat.
Committee member Josie Lloyd said the group was trying to boost its numbers which had not bounced back since its forced halt of sessions due to COVID.
“It would be such a loss to the community to lose such a valuable association,” she said.
“It is such an important association for parents in the community, especially new parents.
“It allows kids to learn through unstructured play, build social skills, make friends and burn off some energy.
“We have some really great indoor and outdoor resources available for the kids and a beautiful big hall to tire them out.”
But Ms Lloyd said playgroup didn’t just benefit the children.
“Playgroup is an affordable, consistent and low commitment weekly outing, where the kids can play in a controlled environment and the parents get to sit, relax and have a chat,” she said.
“It’s a support network for parents and really is the highlight of our week.”
At the moment Deniliquin Playgroup runs three sessions a week, on Mondays from 9am to 11am, Tuesdays 10am to noon and Wednesdays 11am to 1pm.
By becoming a member parents get the first two sessions free and following that the price is just $3 a session or $25 for a term per family.
The sessions are available for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers or zero to five year-olds.
“It is a very inclusive, welcoming and supportive space,” said Ms Lloyd.
“Families from all backgrounds are encouraged to come along.”
