Shepparton police Sergeant Matt Walker said the semi was travelling south on Doyles Rd when it left the road on a sweeping bend at about midnight.
While the truck managed to miss trees, it touched overhead powerlines, taking out power to homes and businesses in the Kialla Central and Kialla West areas, as well as south towards Arcadia.
The driver, a Brisbane man aged in his 30s, was not injured in the crash.
Sgt Walker said a neighbour heard the crash and noticed his power had gone out.
Sgt Walker praised the neighbour’s next actions as he went and told the truck driver about the powerlines touching the truck and that they could be dangerous, thus helping him to exit the vehicle safely.
Police, CFA and Shepparton Search and Rescue all attended the crash.
Doyles Rd was closed for several hours while the scene was cleared and made safe.
A Powercor spokesperson said electricity was restored to most customers by 6am Sunday, while the final three customers had power by 3.30pm Sunday.
