With two large fronts expected to cross the area today and Friday, falls of up to 100mm are expected to occur.
The rain will impact an already saturated catchment and see some significant river level increases.
Residents in the Corowa and surrounding district remain on flood Watch and Act status.
Current widespread moderate flooding remains throughout the area and people are reminded to not enter floodwater.
The NSW SES advises people to monitor the situation as it is constantly changing and avoid floodwater for their safety.
The Murray River at Corowa peaked around 11.30am Saturday, October 1, and is currently falling with moderate flooding.
The river level at Albury/Corowa will vary based on releases from Hume Dam and floodwaters from the Kiewa River.
Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is currently conducting flood operations at Hume Dam to manage inflows from the upper Murray, Mitta Mitta River and other tributaries.
MDBA is working closely with the Bureau and WaterNSW to plan release strategies.
Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following advice applies:
- Low lying areas may be impacted by inundation;
- Tourist accommodations near the river should continue to monitor the river conditions;
- Timber and Tourist tracks can be impacted by inundation;
- Access to the Koondrook and Perricoota State Forests can be impacted; and
- Sandy Bridge Road Causeway over the Barber Creek may be impacted.
Some speed reductions have been implemented as a result of localised flooding.
Lower River Road, Tocumwal was reduced to 70km/h last week due to the rising river.
Several causeways have small amounts of water running through them and some are carrying small amounts of debris.
At this stage Berrigan Shire Council said it does not look like Lower River Road will be closed, but the council will be keeping a vigilant eye on the situation.
Further down the system, NSW SES advises people to stay informed about predicted widespread moderate flooding on the Murray River at Torrumbarry Weir.
Monitoring warnings issued by NSW SES on its website and Facebook page, listening to local ABC radio stations and checking the latest weather information from the Bureau of Meteorology online are all ways the SES advises people to keep updated on the floodwater situation.
No current flood advice has been released for the local area, despite recent rainfall, expected heavy rainfall and the continued spills for the dams.
