This weekend the club takes on Rennie for their first home game of the season at Memorial Park for its first glimpse of home and away Picola league football netball action.
Rovers’ seniors coach Alex Hay said the side’s win against Tocumwal was positive with the team working into the game after some early fumbles, cleaning up the performance as they got into the game.
“Last week’s game against Tocumwal was very pleasing in many aspects. Initially we probably weren’t as clean around the ground which brought their midfielders and high forwards into the game but when we were able to settle we got the game on our terms.”
The execution of the work done across pre-season in the game is a key area of focus, with the team’s skills on show in the season opener Hay said.
“I felt like a lot of what we had implemented over the pre-season was executed in patches, but we would love to have a little bit more consistency across the course of the game.
“We had some really good opportunities forward of the ball with Josh Flight and Ray Murphy who was home for the weekend but the delivery from Jai Ezard, Jackson Muldoon-Leetham and Kaiden Joss on the wing.”
Hay said this weekend’s match should be a good contest with some “serious challenges”.
“I think we’ll find some similar challenges around the ball. Typically they (Rennie) play a contested style of game, which will be a great battle for our midfield.
“Playing against the likes of Chase Strawhorn is always a good experience for our backs and we’ll look to mitigate as many entries as possible.”
The Rovers host the contest.
As its first home game of the season, the say will also include the official opening of the refurbished netball courts, the raising of the 2023 thirds premiership flag and the A-grade, C-grade and C-reserve netball premiership flags.
This Saturday is also Rovers’ Ladies Day.
