Committee for Echuca Moama’s International Women’s Day event held on Sunday, March 1, marked a new milestone for the local hospitality sector with the announcement of the Corale Oberin scholarship initiative.

The initiative was created in honour of Corale Oberin, a woman whose dedication, commitment and care for others left a lasting mark on the Echuca Moama community.
“Her influence on the local hospitality sector continues to guide us, and this scholarship ensures her legacy not only endures, but actively lifts up the next generation of women leaders,” Committee for Echuca Moama chief executive Jayden Howe said.
“We are incredibly proud to recognise this year’s recipients, whose dedication and commitment to excellence reflect the very qualities Corale championed throughout her life.”
The scholarship was awarded to three women: Phoebe Keech, Tiharn Duncan and Lei Castilla.
The scholarships will support each of the three women to pursue further education or training that will strengthen and uplift the hospitality sector.
Lei, a chef de partie at Riverbank Moama, and known as the “kitchen mother" by her colleagues, will use the scholarship to pursue business management studies to complement her expertise in kitchen and cookery management.

Tiharn earned the scholarship through her passion for hospitality and dedication at The Wren Courtyard, where she has flourished as an emerging leader.
Excelling in her role as functions co-ordinator at Rich River Golf Club, Phoebe has dedicated an impressive 10 years to the club across different roles and will use the scholarship to support her professional growth.
“What an honour it is to receive this award in a room full of such inspirational women,” Phoebe said.
