Sirius College teacher and SRC co-ordinator Ayse Aksu said this visit went beyond the conventional idea of honouring mothers, embodying the school’s commitment to respect and the profound importance of cherishing and connecting with our elders.
Ms Akus said the students exchanged poems, songs and heartfelt conversations with the retirement village residents.
This remarkable interaction bridged the generational gap, nurturing empathy and leadership skills while expanding the students’ knowledge of the diverse tapestry of life experiences that enrich the wider community.
As a gesture of gratitude and admiration, students presented the women of Eureka Shepparton Gardens with exquisite roses. In return, one of the residents skilfully crocheted bookmarks for the students.
Throughout the day, residents generously shared their stories, providing the students with a profound understanding of the challenges and triumphs that previous generations had faced.
