Operating with school values of belong, care and pride, BCPS class sizes are small to allow each student a truly individualised education.
At BCPS, four staff members provide education and support in two classrooms for 22 students.
Rebecca Newham, the principal since 2017, teaches part-time in the classroom and leads the Mental Health in Primary Schools program at BCPS.
Each of the classrooms has a teacher and learning support person to work with the small class groups.

Part-time staff supplement the curriculum with tutoring for all students, targeted to individual strengths and needs, and enabling revision and reinforcement of learning.
Individual students who have additional needs are supported to learn at their own pace and to their maximum potential.
These individuals are integrated into the classrooms and all students are assisted to acquire social skills and practical experience of belonging to the school community, caring for others and taking pride in their achievements and their work.
Students enjoy weekly lessons from visiting art, library and sports teachers as well as craft sessions and cooking programs.

The school days at BCPS start with a friendly greeting by staff and George, our young border collie wellbeing dog.
Students meet and eat at the school-provided breakfast program and chat about the day ahead with each other and the staff.
Staff and students then complete laps of the school oval together, providing physical and mental health benefits and allowing opportunities for further individual chats and interactions.
Students then make their way to the classrooms to start their day, as they have been doing for 159 years at Broken Creek Primary School, a happy school and much-loved community asset.

Broken Creek Primary School has been a place of learning for many generations.
The school’s humble beginnings date from a slab hut on a local farm at the time of the first white settlement in the area in the 1840s.
The local Indigenous people had lived near the Broken River, which they called Marangan, for thousands of years before that time.
Many descendants of those Indigenous inhabitants and European settlers have attended BCPS over the years and still live locally, and we pay our respects to them all in 2025, our 159th year.
BCPS is part of a school cluster, which enables multiple small rural schools to congregate together for student interaction.
Regular events such as swimming and sports carnivals, shared learning opportunities, professional development and excursions are organised through the cluster.
BCPS students benefit from meeting other students of their age and grade in a different school environment.
