Benalla Rural City Council’s Social Inclusion Action Group has announced that the fourth round of its social connection grants is now open.
These grants aim to provide local individuals, groups, and organisations with an opportunity to bring inclusive, community-strengthening projects to life.
The SIAG grants support initiatives that promote social inclusion, mental wellbeing, and community connection across Benalla Rural City.
Mayor Bernie Hearn said grants were available to help fund events, activities, and programs that reduce social isolation, celebrate diversity, and ensure that everyone feels welcome and valued in our community.
“We’re excited to offer this fourth round of funding to support ideas that bring people together,” Cr Hearn said.
“Whether it’s a community lunch, a cultural celebration, a creative workshop or a youth event — if it helps people connect and feel included, we want to support it.
“Also, for this grant round, we are piloting a broader eligibility whereby businesses and organisations are eligible to apply, as long as their activity has a high benefit to the community.”
Funding is available for:
- Grassroots projects led by local residents or community groups.
- Activities that support people with lived experience of exclusion (e.g. disability, mental health challenges, financial hardship).
- Inclusive initiatives that reflect the diversity of Benalla Rural City’s community.
Cr Bernie Hearn said the SIAG grants make it possible for community-led ideas to grow and thrive.
“They empower our residents to create meaningful change where it matters most — at the local level,” she said.
Community members, not-for-profit organisations, and informal groups are all encouraged to apply.
The fourth round of funding opens Monday, July 7 and closes on Monday, August 18 at 9am.
