Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn praised the work of SIAG and highlighted the importance of inclusive communities in promoting wellbeing.
“Taking care of your mental health is important and feeling included can make a big difference,” Cr Hearn said.
“When people feel like they belong, their wellbeing improves.
“That’s what SIAG is all about.”
Funded by the Victorian Department of Health, SIAG is a community-led initiative supported by Benalla Rural City Council.
The group works at the grassroots level to promote inclusion, reduce isolation, and strengthen community bonds.
“Mental health and social inclusion go hand in hand,” Cr Hearn said.
“By helping people feel seen, supported and involved in their communities, we can make a lasting impact on their mental wellbeing.
“SIAG is helping lead that important work here in Benalla Rural City.
“SIAG encourages local residents to take part in activities, events and community activities as a way to feel more connected and supported.
“Building social connections not only enhances quality of life, but it also plays a key role in preventing mental health challenges.”
Expressions of Interest are now open for people who want to join the SIAG committee and help lead local initiatives focused on inclusion, connection, and mental wellbeing.
Individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges, social isolation or exclusion are encouraged to apply.
