Let’s Get Rural, a voluntary organisation who travels the state supporting the wellbeing of rural communities, is teaming up with members of No Nioka Solar and Fair Go For North East Country for the special event at the former Mokoan Hub and Cafe, now known as the Winton Café and Events.
It will celebrate mateship and community connection with a night of laughs, music and conversation at the Mokoan Hub and Café
The petition requests the removal of the eastern section of the Central North Renewable Energy Zone from the 2025 Victorian Transmission Plan and the prevention of large-scale cumulative industrial energy developments in designated bushfire prone areas, on existing environmentally sensitive overlays and highly productive farmland along with the rejection of the Nioka Solar Project including its battery energy storage system.
Although enough signatures have been obtained, the group from No Nioka Solar and Fair Go For North East Country want to stress the value in continuing to grow the signatures on the online petition.
“The online petition can be accessed on the No Nioka Solar Facebook page and in all the outlets listed below via a QR code,” a group spokesperson said.
“Dookie reached 10,000 plus signatures, Benalla LGA let's show the government that we wish to protect our landscapes and lives like they did.
“The petition closes August 31.
“If projects in the pipeline are approved, as many as three million solar panels and highly toxic lithium-ion BESS on will exist on highly productive farmland and environmentally significant and protected landscapes within the Benalla LGA.
“The teams at No Nioka Solar and Fair Go For North East Country would like to thank local businesses for their sponsorship,” the spokesperson said.
