The program is made possible through the generosity of local businesses and community donors and is proudly co-ordinated by Brendan French and Tanya Johnstone.
Their ongoing commitment ensures students begin their day nourished, supported and ready to learn.
Each week, the breakfast club is attended by many students and has become an important part of the school’s culture and wellbeing support.
This year, the program has been further strengthened through a partnership with FCJ College, with senior FCJ students now volunteering their time to assist with the club as part of a student engagement initiative.
Co-ordinated at FCJ College by student engagement staff member Nicholas Pearson, FCJ students attend St Joseph’s each Thursday morning to support the program.
In the first week alone, 15 FCJ students volunteered, assisting with welcoming students, pouring juice, preparing toast, cleaning tables and helping with dishes, all under the guidance of the St Joseph’s team.
Jimmy and Reuben love the breakfast club at St Joseph’s Primary.
While the practical support has been appreciated, the most powerful outcome has been the connections formed between students.
“The little ones at St Joey’s absolutely loved it,” Mr Pearson said.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for our senior students to give back, build responsibility and see the impact of service in action.
“Watching those relationships form has been really special.”
Interest from FCJ students has continued to grow, with 25 students now registered to support the breakfast club on a rotating basis.
The partnership not only enhances the program’s capacity, but also strengthens the relationship between the two Catholic school communities.
St Joseph’s Primary School and FCJ College are proud to work together in support of a program that already does so much good, one built on generosity, service and community spirit, ensuring students of all ages feel welcomed, cared for and connected.
