Station closure to have no impact on services

The doors at Cobram Police Station will remain shut to the year’s end and possibly beyond, as maintenance on the ageing building continues.

Last month, community members discovered the doors of the local station locked, with a notice stating the station was closed for maintenance.

Cobram Police Station Senior Sergeant Nathan Ractliffe said the works would have no effect on police capacity or operations in the Cobram area.

“I can guarantee that those policing services are the same that we’ve always had,” he said.

A replacement station currently serves as a temporary contact point with local police.

The Courier understands that works on the roof of the building are expected to take between three to four months to complete.

Sen Sgt Ractliffe said the key message for the community was to call the emergency services on 000 if there was a police emergency.

Non-urgent local issues can be reported through the police assistance line online or by calling 131 444, with the station phone number a last resort.

A ‘police in attendance’ sign indicates when the reception at the replacement unit is open.

Cobram Police Station was constructed in 1989.

It currently serves as the central police hub for Moira Shire.
