The event also marked the official opening of the Rex Wills Trade Centre, named in honour of Benalla’s longest serving teacher.
“Today was a bright day for Benalla. The community has worked so hard for the upgrade and modernisation of Benalla P-12 College,” Ms Ryan said.
“To be part of the official opening of the new senior learning school was fabulous.
“Benalla P-12 has a very rich history and it is well supported by passionate teaching staff. The naming of the trade centre after Mr Wills is a wonderful testament to the 50 years he has spent teaching Benalla kids.”
Community members joined staff and teachers to mark the opening of the new buildings.
“The highlight of today’s opening was receiving a tour of the new learning space from students. They were so proud to welcome people into a new positive, modern environment,” Ms Ryan said.
The buildings were funded through $5 million allocated by The Nationals in 2014, and a further $3.5 million allocated by the Andrews Government in 2016.
“The community has fought so hard for the completion of the school’s rebuild. We’ve run campaign after campaign and it was such a relief to have both sides of politics committing to the school’s completion at last year’s election,” Ms Ryan said.
“With the first stage now ticked off, we look forward to seeing the next stage funded in this year’s Budget.”
