Mr Threlfall has operated his fishing, hunting and outdoors business in Shepparton for 40 years and has a second location in Bendigo.
While he still must go through the selection process, Mr Threlfall is hopeful that he will secure the endorsement within the coming weeks.
He believes that this is the right time to make a move to state politics.
Mr Threlfall said he is in a good spot in his life to take this step and “can give back to the community with a collective mindset”.
Mr Threlfall wants to see the state government work closer with local councils to better support their operations.
He said that his policy focus would be on retail theft, violence in the streets, repeat offenders, recreational access to public land and firearm reforms.
Mr Threlfall hopes to bring to One Nation stability, clear thinking and “a focus on issues that affect our area”.
When asked about One Nation’s more divisive policy platforms, Mr Threlfall said he did not believe they were trying to divide the community.
Mr Threlfall also commented on donations to Senator Pauline Hanson and One Nation from Gina Rinehart.
“Look at your own backyard and see what they’re doing with their own sponsors before trying to dig too deep into the situation,” Mr Threlfall said, referencing other political parties.
Mr Threlfall is expected to resign as a councillor if he runs at the state election, but will wait for specific advice from the council executive regarding timing.
