Benalla Bulldogs took the honours against Wangaratta Magpies in the under-14 and 16 matches on Sunday at Benalla Friendlies Oval.
In a close match, the under-16s game went down to the wire with the Bulldogs hanging on to win by five points.
Leading at every break, the Doggies withheld a fast-finishing Magpies.
The Wright-Fry brothers, Charlie and Ethan, led the way for the Bulldogs, while Charlie Bull, Jack Fullager, Will Stickland, Blake Booker and Lachlan Anderson all had a major impact on the game.
In a great effort, the Bulldogs have now won four from their 11 matches under coach Richard Bull after struggling for numbers during the pre-season.
In the under-14s, the Doggies made it seven wins, building on a 22-point lead at half-time to win by 51 points.
Miller Gilchrist, Riley Ely, Joe Berry, James Cooke, Joe Pastuszka-McMahon and Henry Hill were the Doggies’ best players.
Hill kicked five goals.
Benalla Giants battled hard against Kangaroos at Wareena Park.
In the under-16 match, after trailing by just seven points at quarter-time, the Giants conceded four goals to zero in the second quarter.
They then managed to keep the Kangaroos to just two goals in the second half.
While the final margin extended to 40 points, the developing Giants battled hard.
Lachlan Boyle, Colby Mathieson, Harry DeWinne, Tyrese Clark, Will O’Donoughue and Hobbie Tonks were the best players.
In the under-14s, the Kangas were again too strong.
After being kept scoreless in the first half, the Giants added two goals in the third quarter outscoring their opposition.
Jacob Adams, William Hyland, Dylan Clark, Jack Quilliam, Tyson McGregor and Max Cullen were the best players.
In under-12 matches, Benalla Red recorded a 15-point victory over the Kangaroos, while Benalla White fought hard against the Magpies.
Best players for White were Jayden Chee, Kyle Pearce and Alyssa Priest.
For Red it was Xavier Wapling, Rory Sammon, Kye Miller, Alex Cairncross, Aidan McDonald and James Martin.
