Thoona CFA is hosting a fundraising day that will double as an information hub to get the community ready for summer.
Julia Coleman is one of the local CFA volunteers, and she said fundraising was essential for smaller brigades.
“We've organised a car boot sale, and all the proceeds of that will go to Thoona CFA,” she said.
"We're having a sausage sizzle, and a little raffle with locally donated goods.“
If you get peckish there will also be Devonshire teas for sale.
Ms Coleman said on top of all that, the day provided an opportunity to get advice ahead of what is being cited as another potentially bad fire season.
“Whether you’re a long-term resident or new to the area come along and take the opportunity to meet local brigade members and discuss preparation for the upcoming fire season,” she said.
“We've got Winton Fire Brigade bringing over their brand-new truck, so they'll be here supporting us.”
Ms Coleman and her partner run the local general store. She said it, and the Thoona Hotel, would be open on the day.
“The event will be in the centre of Thoona as our CFA station is a bit too small,” she said.
“So people can have a look through the car boot sale and the shop, get some advice ahead of the fire season then go to the pub for lunch.
“We have to do a lot of fundraising ourselves, and when you've only got a small local group of volunteers and a lot of them are farmers who are very busy it can be difficult,” Ms Coleman said.
“So please come along and support us.”
The Thoona Car Boot Sale and Get Fire Ready event is free to enter and takes place from 9am-12pm on Saturday, October 3.
Sellers are advised that gates open at 8am, and sites are $10.
