Tomorrow Today supports local projects with $40,000-plus in grants

Ten fantastic local projects will be undertaken this year with funding support from Tomorrow Today’s 2022 Community Grants.

More than $40,000 was awarded for a diverse range of initiatives at a recent presentation — a record amount.

At the presentation representatives of the successful groups spoke about their projects and the difference they hope to make in the community.

Grant recipients were:

Benalla Migrant Camp for the “Walk of Lights” community celebration;
Benalla Migrant Association to explore migration history through storytelling, creating a children’s picture book about the successful life of Siva Singh in 1800s Benalla;
Room at the Table to create connections and build “soft” skills with school students through the use of board-games and tabletop role-playing games;
Waminda Community House for their Wednesdays @ Waminda social development and skills-based after-school program;
Bernard Briggs Kindergarten to purchase outdoor climbing equipment suitable for three-year-olds;
Munro Avenue Preschool for inclusion support resources;
Ride Avenue Preschool to purchase STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) resources; Australian Christian College Hume — to expand their computer loan system;
Benalla P-12 College for its Hands-on Learning students to build and distribute raised veggie beds; and
Benalla Flexible Learning Centre to support its Hands-on Learning program, including beautification of the Barkly St precinct.

Addressing the gathering held at Tomorrow Today’s Nunn St home, foundation chair Louise Pearce congratulated the successful applicants on the work they were doing.

“As Benalla’s community foundation, awarding our annual grants is one of the highlights of our year,” Ms Pearce said.

“The support we can provide to local groups and organisations today is the reason for all the effort in raising money for the community fund.”

Since 2003, Tomorrow Today has presented 146 grants to 65 different groups and organisations totalling $340,000.

The community fund is a permanent and growing pool of funds that acts as a “future fund” for Benalla.

Income from the fund is distributed as local grants — year after year.
