With a great mix of country markets, handmade goods, local produce, preloved treasures and community-run events, it’s a great chance to shop locally, meet the people behind the stalls and discover something new while embracing the festival spirit.
Benalla Festival Advisory Committee chair and Benalla Rural City Deputy Mayor Cr Justin King said the markets were a wonderful way to experience the community during the festival.
“Local markets are a great reflection of the community spirit that makes Benalla Rural City such a special place,” Cr King said.
“They give people the chance to come together, support local makers and producers, discover unique finds and enjoy the friendly atmosphere that our community is known for.
“Whether you’re heading out to one of our country markets, searching for a pre-loved bargain or spending time at A Day in the Gardens, there are plenty of ways to make the most of the festival.”
The 2026 market program will showcase the diversity of communities across Benalla Rural City, with events offering everything from fresh local produce and delicious food to handmade crafts, plants, clothing and one-of-a-kind treasures.
Festivities kick off with the Devenish Market on Sunday, November 1, offering live entertainment, delicious food and a wide range of local stalls in a beautiful country setting.
The annual inflatable animal race, back for its third edition, will see people dress up in inflatable animal costumes and compete to be the fastest puffed-up beastie on the day and is sure to provide a few laughs.
Garage Sale Trail will again provide an opportunity for residents to declutter, reuse and find a bargain, while supporting a more sustainable approach to shopping and bringing neighbours together.
Community garage sales and pre-loved markets give visitors the chance to discover quality second-hand items while keeping unwanted goods in use and out of landfill.
Stalls at the Pre-loved Market booked out in record time, which means there are sure to be bundles of bargains to be found by all who attend.
In fact, the Pre-loved Market was so popular last year that for 2026 it has been moved to the town hall so it can accommodate more stalls and even more savvy shoppers.
Always a festival favourite, A Day in the Gardens Market is also returning to the Benalla Botanical Gardens.
Set among the spring blooms, this much-loved event brings together a large selection of stallholders offering handmade products, plants, gourmet treats, local produce and more.
With markets happening throughout the festival, visitors are encouraged to make a day of it, explore different townships and support the local people and businesses that help Benalla Rural City thrive.
The Benalla Festival runs from October 31 to November 8.
