Crime Stoppers and Victoria Police met with Benalla Rural City Compliance Officers to discuss safety and security with the community.

The event was held on Thursday, June 27 at Benalla’s Visitor Information Centre.

Attendees wanted to learn how to improve home security and register their details with the Police Assistance Line before going on holidays.

To keep belongings safe, people were reminded to lock their doors and hide valuables.

If your property is stolen, having photos and serial numbers recorded can help police find it.

Information and resources were available to keep the community safe, including one-way anti-theft screws to reduce number plate theft.

The event allowed community members to share concerns and learn how to report suspicious or illegal behaviour.

Crime Stoppers representatives talked to people about reporting crime.

Many were surprised to hear about Crime Stoppers' recent campaign on the illegal exotic pet trade.

This includes pests like hedgehogs, which carry diseases that threaten Australian farm animals, pets, and wildlife.

People can report illegal exotic animal sales to Crime Stoppers or call Agriculture Victoria on 136 186 to report exotic pests.
