Vintage rally attracts interstate visitors

Event organiser Beryl Marshall said the event was a great success.

“We had 145 exhibitors come for the rally, which was quite a wonderful thing,” she said.

“On Friday night, I had 39mm of rain and I only live within five minutes’ walk of the rally ground... we thought it might be too wet for some people to come, but no, it was just brilliant.

“We were so busy Saturday that we were running out of food, and we had to make more sandwiches and more scones... when there's more food being wanted, it’s good.”

The rally’s committee showcased a few of their own tractors, including a locally-owned and restored 100-year-old Ronaldson Tippett tractor, which drew much attention on the day.

There was also a special appearance by the International Scout Owners Club as part of the club’s national rally that happens every two years.

As it was Victoria’s turn to host the rally, club members from all over Australia travelled to Lockington to enjoy the display.

The day included vintage and classic trucks, tractors, cars, farm machinery, stationery and miniature engines.

There were also a few market stalls on the day and food provided by the Lockington Heritage Centre and the Lions Club of Lockington.

On Saturday evening, the local ukulele band ‘Locky Ukers’ took centre stage and gave the guests a show.

Ms Marshall said the event would not have been possible without the help of the community.

“The committee felt that if it wasn’t for the help of the community who are non-members, we would have struggled,” she said.

“It was really important to have their help, it was really good.”
