Held in partnership with the Benalla TAC L2P Program, Benalla Rural City Council, and Victoria Police, ‘Know Your Ride’ will take place at Benalla Toyota on Tuesday, May 13 from 6pm to 8.30pm.
The event coincides with National Road Safety Week and focuses on practical vehicle knowledge and responsible driving.
Benalla Toyota has supported the Benalla TAC L2P Program for several years, recognising the importance of helping local learner drivers overcome barriers to gaining on-road experience.
The program assists drivers aged 16 to 21 in safely reaching the 120 hours required for a probationary licence.
Participants will rotate through three engaging workshops:
Know Your Wheels
Basic maintenance including tyre checks, fluid top-ups, and pre-drive inspections.
In the Driver’s Seat
This session focuses on helping learner drivers become familiar with the internal layout of a vehicle.
Participants will learn how to correctly position their seat and adjust mirrors to eliminate blind spots, as well as how to interpret dashboard warning lights and symbols.
Understanding these elements is essential for establishing good driving habits and ensuring the vehicle is operated safely and comfortably.
Safety Systems in Action
A breakdown of modern active safety features like Lane Trace Assist and Pre-Collision Safety.
“Toyota introduced the Toyota Safety Sense suite in 2015, making these systems standard on new vehicles and commonplace in many used vehicles popular among young drivers,” said Jarred Clark, Dealer Principal at Benalla Toyota.
“Active safety systems support, but do not replace, driver responsibility. Understanding their capabilities and limitations is essential.
“Benalla Toyota is dedicated to promoting road safety and driver education. Events like Know Your Ride help young drivers stay safe, informed, and confident on our roads.”
Leading Senior Constable Lisa Atkinson from the Benalla Proactive Policing Unit said events like this are very useful for young drivers.
“Young people between 18 and 25 years old continue to be vastly over-represented in our road trauma statistics. It’s important to have conversations about safe driving,” she said.
TAC L2P co-ordinator, Natalie Phillips, said that learning every aspect of driving, including having safer vehicles and making safe choices, is integral to the L2P program.
“We are very happy to support Benalla Toyota in showing learners and the wider community how to safely maintain their vehicles,” she said.
The evening will include a Victoria Police road safety presentation, light refreshments, giveaways, and networking opportunities for young drivers and potential L2P volunteer mentors.
The event is free, but attendees will need to register via bit.ly/KnowYourRideBenalla/
